  FAQ's

Q: What is Brother’s Cool Earth Eco-Rewards initiative?

A: We’ve launched a new eco-initiative, which links our consumable returns environmental programme with donations to the Cool Earth charity.

Q: Is Cool Earth Eco-Rewards a European initiative?

A: Yes, our Cool Earth Eco-Rewards pledge is linked to Brother Europe’s consumable return and recycle programme.

Q: How is the Cool Earth sponsorship protecting the Amazon?

A: Our sponsorship is helping the local Ashaninka tribe to preserve part of the rainforest. The funds will protect the trees and safeguard the habitat of endangered wildlife.

Q: Why has Brother chosen to sponsor this charity?

A: We have a positive attitude and commitment to our communities and our planet. By supporting Cool Earth we are helping to protect the trees in the Amazon rainforest, by providing the local community with the resources to responsibly harvest produce, such as nuts and cocoa, whilst preserving biodiversity and safeguarding the habitat of plants and animals, including a number of endangered species. Rainforest destruction has a massive impact on climate change and accounts for a staggering six billion tonnes of CO2 emissions every year, so by protecting the trees we are also helping to reduce carbon emissions from deforestation.

Q: How do I use the consumable returns programme?

A: A free post returns label can be downloaded from our website, along with instructions about how to send your used Brother ink and toner cartridges and drums to us.

Q: How much is donated to Cool Earth per Brother ink or toner cartridge returned?

A: We have committed that for every four toner cartridges or every eight inkjet cartridges returned through Brother Europe’s scheme we will protect a tree within the Amazon Rainforest.

Q: Are toner drums included in the Cool Earth Eco-Rewards scheme?

A: Drums are not currently linked to our Cool Earth initiative. However, they are part of the consumable returns programme.

Q: What happens to the ink and toner cartridges when they are returned to Brother?

A: Customers are encouraged to return their used ink cartridges and toner drums and cartridges to ensure the responsible disposal and recycling of these items.Toner cartridges and drums are returned to our recycling plant in the UK. Certain perfect components can be recovered and reused in the production process, with other parts granulated so that they can be used to make new cartridge components or provide raw materials for other companies.

In 2009 we extended the programme to include our inkjet cartridges, so customers can ensure they are disposed of responsibly. When these are returned they are used by an energy recovery facility to provide fuel – creating energy and heat for institutional buildings.
