The purpose of an environmental label from any of the major eco-labels signifies that that product is significantly 'greener' than other products. Each label has its own criteria on which the award of the label is based and they are developed in an independent body and compliance with the criteria is checked. Purchasing a product with an environmental label should give the consumer confidence that the product has a lower environmental impact and will consume less energy, pollute less, or create less waste. |

Energy Star is an international standard for energy efficient consumer products. The Energy Star program was created in 1992 in an attempt to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission by power plants.
