Brother teams-up with Irish customers to protect the rainforest

Printing brand, Brother has launched a new eco-initiative ahead of the United Nations (UN) World

Environment Day tomorrow June 5th - and is encouraging customers in Ireland to get involved.

Brother is asking people and businesses in Ireland who use its printers to utilise its free ReNew scheme for used consumables - and in return will sponsor trees in the endangered Amazon Rainforest.

The company has teamed-up with pioneering rainforest sustainability charity - Cool Earth - to help protect the Peruvian Amazon and will be providing funds based on the number of used ink and toner cartridges and drums it receives through its European returns and recycling programme.

Managing Director of Brother Ireland, Sean Sheehan, comments: "We're sponsoring the protection of trees in the Amazon based on the number of used Brother ink and toner cartridges and drums that our customers return. This has two positive outcomes for the environment, as it encourages consumables to be disposed of responsibly, as well as helping to reduce deforestation."

The sponsorship will help Amazon tribes protect the trees and safeguard the habitat of endangered wildlife. Rainforest destruction has a massive impact on climate change and the initiative is therefore helping to reduce carbon emissions from deforestation.

Sean Sheehan adds: "This is a Europe-wide initiative and we're counting on customers in Ireland to show their support and help us protect a million trees by the end of the year."

The Cool Earth Eco-Rewards initiative is part of Brother Earth - a new platform that encompasses the brand's commitment to the planet. Its Brother Earth website has now launched so customers can easily access information about the eco-credentials of the company's products, as well as its wider reaching environmental activities.
